Funeral preferences and budgets

This is about removing pressure, not performing grief.

The minimum versus ceremony

The minimum is burial or cremation carried out lawfully and safely.

Everything beyond that is optional: service, venue, vehicles, flowers, music, printed materials.

Choose a band

Write one clear sentence in your notes or letter of wishes:

If you want a budget, name it

Budgets reduce panic. They also reduce manipulation.

If you do not want money spent, say so clearly.

Plans and prepayment

Funeral plans can help, but they can fail.

Some plans have collapsed in the past and left people stranded.

If you prepay, understand you are taking provider risk.

An alternative is to earmark funds through savings or insurance and leave clear instructions.

Only go big if it is affordable and freely chosen

A lavish funeral is not respect. It is a choice.

If it harms the living financially, it is not a gift.
